the problem

nigerian university students have been studying with tools that were never built with them in mind.

past questions scattered across group chats and pdf drives. no ai that understands the local curriculum. no single place to record a lecture, take notes, prep for exams, and manage your week. students were stitching together five different apps just to get through a semester. the gap was obvious, and nobody was filling it.

i was sitting right in the middle of that problem. a student, watching it happen around me every day.

building it

i started mycampuspal in 2025 with one goal: build the study tool i actually wanted to use. good things take time, and this one took a lot of it. months of designing, scrapping, rebuilding, and getting the details right.

the core of the app is omini, an ai tutor powered by the gemini api. omini doesn't just answer questions, it understands context, helps with course material, and actually feels useful. around it, i built offline notes, a past questions library, ai-generated quizzes, lecture recording with transcription, and a task and scheduling tool.

the stack is next.js on the frontend, supabase as the backend, and the gemini api handling all the ai features. everything is hosted on vercel. i built the full product, designed the entire ui, and shipped it myself.

where it is now

mycampuspal launched in march 2025, off the back of a 300+ waitlist and a 600-person community that had been waiting for it. before launch, it won the babcock innovation challenge 5.0, which came with seed funding and early validation that the idea was real.

the ambassador program went live two weeks before launch, students were already spreading the word before the product even dropped. post-launch, the focus shifted to growth, conversion, and making sure every person who signed up actually felt the value of the product.

this one is personal. it's the project that showed me what i'm capable of building when i'm solving a problem i actually live inside.
